Welcome to Noise Creator’s New Noise column where we tell you about the best up and coming bands we think everyone will be talking about soon. By James Cassar Dubuque, Iowa isn’t exactly where you’d go to find the next big scene upstart, mostly because this Midwestern pit stop isn’t home to a scene at all. In the words of Kayak Jones drummer Brandon Blakeley, “it’s the kind of place you would go to raise a family rather than shred gigs.” Perhaps that’s why this project – also anchored by vocalist/guitarist Tyler Zumhof – began as a partnership destined to hit the road away from this musical dry patch. But despite what their social media timelines choose to convey, Kayak Jones is a child of divorce. Two of its founding members left before the band’s debut EP, Drugs, saw a summer 2015 digital-only release, and Blakeley and Zumhof are still in the process of rounding out the rhythm section with a steady bass player. What exists on that initial run gets its endurance from wounded statements and its second wind from a search for connectedness. Perhaps that second facet is built from Zumhof’s insistence on arrangements grounded in bridging a tonal Read more…

We got the chance to do a cool interview to get to know one of Noise Creators talented producers. Aslan Freeman  grew up as a studio hobbyist while working with his father as a live sound engineer. After completing a BM in Music Composition at UNC-Greensboro and spending time touring in rock bands, Freeman briefly worked and studied under Jesse Cannon, Mike Oettinger, and a few local producers before setting up Freeman Productions Studio in a spacious old house outside of Chapel Hill, NC. Freeman Productions has quickly gained a reputation for its quality and affordability while servicing countless local and national acts in every genre from country, pop and electronic music to indie rock, classical and hardcore. With his thorough knowledge of music theory and extensive experience as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Freeman can bring your project to life, no matter if it’s a string quartet for a film score, a raw punk record, or a radio-bound pop single. What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen in the studio? Over the course of 2015 I did a bunch of work on a record called Hall Street Mural for a good friend of mine named Jake Rogers. I grew up watching Jake Read more…

Welcome to Noise Creator’s New Noise column where we tell you about the best up and coming bands we think everyone will be talking about soon. By Bobby Benedict Real Eyes by First Ghost First Ghost is sharp. Anton DeLost is the powerhouse behind this project as lead singer, guitarist, and producer. Not to gloss over the other amazing members of this band, there is a solid rhythm section behind these songs that are the glue to the rest of DeLost’s interwoven melodies. From their first album, Real Eyes you can tell that DeLost pushes himself and his guys just as hard as he has any other band. The songwriting is crisp and knows what it is trying to say. “The Less You Know,” the first single from their upcoming EP Secret Talk shows off everything that I love about this band. Layered vocals, roomy and ethereal guitars, a solid backbone of drums, and a bass that knows when to walk and when to hold back. You can feel some of the spirit that these guys borrow from bands like Jimmy Eat World or American Football and at the same time hear some of the style that DeLost has helped bring Read more…
